STICKERING SERIES

FLORATHERIUM

FLOWERING BEASTS

These colorful creatures are reptiles fused with extravagant plants and flowers. I drew inspiration from different reptile species within the same group to design each creature.

Varanus is the genus of monitor lizards, with their long bodies and broad shoulders, the Komodo dragon being the most famous of them. Viperidae is a family of snakes, of which the rhinoceros viper was the most prominent in this design. Agama are colorful lizards, Caiman are alligators. As for the turtle, the genus is Pseudemys, which includes species of freshwater turtles. Finally, Anolis are lizards with extensible wattles that can change color, and Gekkota comprises the geckos.

A BIG, COLORFUL CHALLENGE

While a sticker usually is a small printed image that you put on the corner of a laptop or book, this one is a painted vinil measuring 50x30cm. The idea for Crocodylus florida came to me when I went to the garden to paint all the plants that I had there and I found a tiny lizard hanging on the wall.

A REPTILIAN EXPERIMENT

Another special aspect of this piece was the use of acrylics instead of paint markers. It was a great opportunity to perfect the use of layers to separate the background and the linework, and to develop the color palette and linework digitally before starting with the vinyl.
